When we met you at your consultation, we realized you are so much more than your weight, which is just a number on the scale. However, your safety is our number one concern, and we want you at your safest medical condition prior to going into your surgery. Weight loss prior to surgery will help promote a safer surgery and easier recovery.
Throughout your program, it will be important that we track and record your weight. The two weight goals discussed at your consultation appointment can be found in your “Homework” letter.
Scheduling/Consent goal weight– this is the weight you need to meet in order to be scheduled for surgery will be the same weight that is required for the day of the consent visit.
Surgery goal weight– this is the weight you need to be at the day before your surgery date. This weight will be achieved while you are on the required pre- op diet.
COMMON QUESTIONS
WHY?
We monitor your weight to ensure interventions are optimal for you to achieve the required weight goals in a safe and timely manner.
You will be sent a text message the day before a required weight check. You will reply to the text by attaching a picture of a scale in JPEG format (most phones either take JPEG photos or convert them to JPEG automatically when texting) with your weight to the number 513-572-1718 by noon on the required day.
HOW?
The picture must be taken from a digital scale or a physician’s office scale. Analog scale weights or verbal weights will not be accepted.
WHEN?
Weight checks will be required throughout your surgery process. The dietitians will work with you to set a schedule for your required weight checks.
WHAT HAPPENS IF I MISS A WEIGHT CHECK?
We understand that schedules may need flexibility. If you are unable to meet the weight check requirement, you must communicate the concern with your dietitian and appropriate accommodations will be made.
Not reporting your weight, could result in YOUR SURGERY BEING POSTPONED.
WEIGHT GAIN?
We recognize how challenging weight loss can be. The required weight checks will help minimize the chance of weight gain. In the event you experience a weight gain, the dietitians will work with you to establish optimal interventions needed towards reaching your required goal weight.
