Common questions

A few answers to help you get oriented

How do I know whether surgery, medication, or a balloon is right for me?

The best fit depends on factors such as BMI, health history, prior weight-loss attempts, medications, insurance coverage, budget, and personal preference. A JourneyLite provider can help you compare these paths during your initial evaluation.

Does JourneyLite accept insurance and offer self-pay options?

JourneyLite supports insurance, self-pay, and financing pathways. Coverage and requirements vary, so the team can help you understand the next steps for your specific plan and treatment.

Do people travel to have surgery at JourneyLite Surgery Center?

Yes. We have operated on patients from over 30 states, including Alaska. We have even had patients travel from Canada, Bermuda, and Egypt because of JourneyLite's experience and expertise.

What is included in the $10,000 self-pay gastric sleeve?

Our $10,000 self-pay package at JourneyLite Surgery Center is designed for transparency. It includes the surgeon’s fee, anesthesia, facility fee at JourneyLite Surgery Center, and your routine post-operative follow-up visits for the first year. A JourneyLite coordinator can walk you through the exact inclusions, any necessary pre-op testing, and qualification criteria during your initial consultation.

Can I start with a virtual appointment?

Virtual visits are available for many appointment types. Availability can depend on your location, treatment path, and the clinical services needed.

What support is available after treatment?

JourneyLite offers one of the most experienced weight loss teams in the country, led by Dr. Trace Curry. Our team consists of experienced physicians, Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioners, Licensed/Registered Dietitians, and insurance experts.

How long does the process take from my first consultation to starting treatment?

The timeline varies based on your chosen path and insurance requirements. Self-pay patients can sometimes have surgery in as soon as 4-6 weeks. If you are using insurance for surgery, the approval process can take a little longer and varies significantly by plan.

Can I come to JourneyLite if I had my original bariatric surgery somewhere else?

Yes. We frequently welcome transfer patients and those seeking bariatric revisions. Whether you have relocated, are experiencing weight regain, or are having complications with an older procedure like a Lap-Band, our surgeons and dietitians can evaluate your current anatomy and help you get back on track.

If I start with weight loss medications and don't see results, can I transition to surgery later?

Absolutely. Because JourneyLite offers a full spectrum of care, you aren't locked into just one option. If you start with a medical weight loss plan or gastric balloon and later decide you need a more durable surgical option, our team will help you transition your care plan seamlessly.
