Loop Duodenal Switch (SIPS procedure) and Dr. Steven Udelhofen

We are pleased to announce the addition of a 3rd surgeon to our team, Dr. Steven Udelhofen! Dr. Udelhofen is a fellowship-trained bariatric surgeon. He completed his general surgery training in Detroit, Michigan at Sinai-Grace Hospital, nationally recognized for its busy inner city trauma service. He then completed his fellowship in Advanced Laparoscopic and Robotic surgery and Bariatric Surgery through the University of Texas, in affiliation with the prestigious BMI of Texas. Dr. Udelhofen’s focus includes advanced foregut and weight loss surgery including

robotic revisional surgery of previous weight loss surgery
sleeve gastrectomy
loop duodenal switch
endoscopic revisional bariatric procedures such as Overstitch

In addition to weight loss surgery he does robotic Heller myotomy to treat achalasia, giant paraesophageal hernia repair, as well as Nissen fundoplication and Stretta therapy for the treatment of GERD. He will begin seeing patients on Monday, August 15th. In addition to our main office in Cincinnati, we will be adding 2 Wednesdays a month in our Columbus office and 1 extra Friday a month in our Dayton office.

Loop Duodenal Switch (SIPS Procedure)

The loop duodenal switch (also called the SIPS procedure for “Stomach Intestinal Pylorus Sparing”) is a new procedure to the world of bariatric surgery and a new procedure to our practice, which we are excited about offering. Most studies show that duodenal switch has the best long-term weight loss results and the highest rate of diabetes remission. The loop duodenal switch is a modification of the traditional duodenal switch that can potentially offer a lower complication rate with equivalent weight loss.
