Weight Loss Surgery Reverses Diabetes

This is not news to us, but to much of the world it is.  Recent work done at the Cleveland Clinic affirms our findings that weight loss surgery often reverses diabetes. The STAMPEDE (Surgical Therapy And Medications Potentially Eradicate Diabetes Efficiently) study, published in the New England Journal of Medicine, involved 150 patients, and is the largest randomized trial published that examines how effective surgery treats diabetes versus optimum medical treatment. Overall, around 30% of diabetes who had surgery were rendered medication-free, while only 5% of patients who were treated non-surgically achieved the same outcome.
