Tell us in your own words how your weight has affected your life:
My weight ballooned up after having kids, then a divorce, and other life events. I tried multiple times to get my weight under control. I finally had gastric bypass surgery in 2008 and did great. Then Covid hit. I’m a nurse and that was a very anxious time. Watching my closest peers die, patients die, no resources, etc. Shortly after that my father committed suicide then, if that wasn’t enough, my brother was diagnosed with Glioblastoma and ultimately died 4 months after his diagnosis. The stress and anxiety were too much and I did what I do and turned to food to make it better. I found a great therapist, worked through a lot of the “stuff” and since returning to Ohio from Arizona decided I needed to focus on me.
Tell us how surgery, balloon, or medication has helped you get control of your weight issues:
I looked up Journey Lite and made the appointment. I will NEVER regret that decision. Because on that day I decided that my life was worth it!! In October I tried to go it alone. I weighed 245 at that time. I started on Adipex I think in November 2023. My weight was 240.2. The NPs, dieticians, staff EVERYONE have been 100% and beyond supportive. I’m learning how to make good food choices for LIFE. Reading labels, understanding carbs, fat, protein, macros, etc. It has been amazing. The dieticians have helped me find good recipes. I’m learning how to make foods I love (like lasagna) with good ingredients, using egg life wraps instead of lasagna noodles. I’m finding ways to have a tiny desert every now and then. I’m working out..walking 5 miles a day 5-6 days a week and including HIIT and strength training!! My last appointment on 5/30 2024 I was down to 184.6!! I feel good, I have more energy, sleeping better, eating healthier. I’ve lost, I don’t know how many inches and went from a size 24 to a 14. This week has been rough…it is the anniversary of my dad’s death, BUT…..I’m taking it one day, one hour, one minute at a time….I’m reading, journaling, or exercising instead of running to the pantry for a “quick fix”. I couldn’t be HAPPIER!!
Tell us about the support you have received from the team at JourneyLite and how it has impacted your success:
Oh my gosh, I can’t even begin to say how much the support means. The staff are so welcoming, kind, supportive and great with suggestions on the pre-packaged food/drinks in the office.
Dana…oh my! She is a rock star! I just LOVE her…She is so incredibly supportive, positive, and reassuring. She offers tons of suggestions…in fact I learned about Egg Life wraps from her!! I think her personality and genuine concern for my health is quite evident at each visit!
ALL the dieticians….wow! always there to offer suggestions, sending websites or little 1-page snipits to help! It was so rough at first learning to count carbs, etc. It still is but I know they are ALL there to help me succeed.
The entire team is amazing, supportive and there for any questions or concerns!
What’s one thing you can do now that you couldn’t before you lost the weight:
run…I never in a million years thought I would be able to jog. But I can…almost 3 miles now…. eeekkkk! at 63!
Also, making this a part of my lifestyle….I can go to the grocery, read labels, go to a restaurant and know that I will be successful.
Optional Comments:
This is real life…real change….the Adipex is only the tool….the decision to make this a lifestyle is up to me. With the assistance of Dana and the Dieticians….
