Kathleen’s medical weight-loss success story

After stress, grief, and emotional eating contributed to weight regain, Kathleen chose to focus on her own health. With Adipex, nutrition education, therapy, and JourneyLite’s support, she lost nearly 56 pounds and built routines she could sustain.

Stress and loss brought old coping patterns back

Kathleen first struggled with weight after having children and during other major life changes. She had gastric bypass surgery in 2008 and initially did well, but the demands of working as a nurse during the COVID-19 pandemic and a series of profound family losses created overwhelming stress and anxiety.

Food again became a source of comfort. Kathleen found a therapist, worked through what she had experienced, and decided after returning to Ohio that it was time to make her own health a priority.

Choosing JourneyLite and Adipex

Kathleen started JourneyLite’s medical weight-loss program with Adipex, also called phentermine, in November 2023 at 240.2 pounds. She describes making the appointment as the moment she decided that her life and health were worth prioritizing.

“This is real life—real change. The Adipex is only the tool; the decision to make this a lifestyle is up to me.”

Learning how to make everyday food choices

JourneyLite’s nurse practitioners and dietitians helped Kathleen understand labels, carbohydrates, fat, protein, portions, and macronutrients. She learned to adapt foods she enjoyed with ingredients that better supported her goals instead of treating healthy eating as an all-or-nothing plan.

That education gave her confidence at the grocery store and in restaurants. Kathleen says she can now make informed choices while still allowing room for an occasional small dessert.

Support that made change feel possible

Kathleen describes the entire JourneyLite team as welcoming, kind, and practical. She especially credits Dana’s encouragement and suggestions with helping her feel supported at each visit.

The dietitians reinforced that support with recipes, websites, and concise resources as she learned a new way of eating. Knowing the team was available for questions helped her continue when the process felt difficult.

Walking five miles—and learning to run at 63

By her May 2024 update, Kathleen reported weighing 184.6 pounds. She was walking five miles a day five or six days a week, adding high-intensity interval and strength training, and had moved from a size 24 to a size 14.

At age 63, she could jog nearly three miles—something she had never imagined doing. She also reported more energy, better sleep, and healthier eating.

During emotionally difficult periods, Kathleen now turns to reading, journaling, or exercise instead of seeking a quick fix in the pantry. She takes the process one day, one hour, and sometimes one minute at a time.
