“I Got My Life Back—And My Skates Too!”
By Kandace Pherson
Before my surgery, I was stuck in a body that constantly held me back. At 230 pounds, every day was a struggle—physically and emotionally. I’ve battled Fibromyalgia, so the weight only amplified my pain. I was out of breath walking short distances. Even simple things—like picking something up off the floor—felt impossible.
Worse, I couldn’t do the things I loved. Roller skating with my husband and daughter? Forget it. After just a couple of laps, I’d be on the bench, gasping for air and aching all over. Adventures with my family felt like dreams that were slipping away.
Then, in June 2024, everything changed. I had gastric sleeve surgery with Dr. James Augusta at JourneyLite, and it was the best decision of my life. Since then, I’ve lost 96 pounds—and gained everything back that truly matters.
Now? I jog, swim, dance, and yes—I’m roller skating again! I’ve even started line dancing lessons with my husband! My pain has improved by about 75-80%, which is absolutely incredible. I finally feel like myself again—strong, active, and alive.
The JourneyLite team has been phenomenal from day one. They answered every question, guided me through every step, and helped me understand that this surgery is a tool—but the work is mine. And I’m doing it. Every day.
Dr. Augusta was amazing through it all—before, during, and after surgery. I’m forever grateful to him and to the entire JourneyLite family. They didn’t just help me lose weight…
They helped me get my life back.

🌟 Mindy’s Transformation with JourneyLite 🌟
For as long as I can remember, I’ve struggled with my weight. Even as a child, I knew it was holding me back—but I didn’t fully understand how much it was affecting my life until adulthood.
In April 2024, I went on a family trip. I was likely over 400 pounds at that point, and when I saw the pictures afterward, it hit me like a ton of bricks. My health had gotten out of control. I was taking five insulin shots a day, a weekly injection, daily diabetes pills, and more medications than I could count. I had no energy, no motivation, and no quality of life. Everyday tasks felt like impossible challenges.
That’s when I made a decision to change my life. I reached out to JourneyLite.
At my first appointment in May 2024, I weighed in at 398.8 pounds. With the help of Dr. James Augusta and the amazing team at JourneyLite, I had gastric sleeve surgery on October 24, 2024. On the day of surgery, I was 337 pounds. As of July 21, 2025—just nine months later—I’m down to 237 pounds. That’s 161 pounds gone, and I feel like I finally got my life back.
Today, I’m more active than I’ve ever been. I hike. I stay busy. I move with purpose. I only take one insulin shot a day when needed, plus my daily vitamins. I no longer use food to cope with stress or emotions. Instead, I focus on healthy eating, staying active, and taking care of my emotional and mental well-being.
The JourneyLite team has been absolutely incredible. Every question I had was answered with compassion. Every doubt I felt was met with reassurance and support. They’ve been with me every step of the way, and I truly believe I couldn’t have done this without them.
Now, I can walk around my neighborhood, go to the gym, and shop for clothes without frustration. I can live my life again—with my husband, my child, and the people I love.
This surgery saved my life. My only regret is not doing it sooner.
Alona’s 79 lb Weight Loss with JourneyLite in Cincinnati
“Choosing JourneyLite was the best decision I’ve ever made, I even traveled from Pennsylvania to Cincinnati!”
Procedure: Gastric Sleeve (VSG)
Currently 3 Months Post-op
Surgeon: Dr. Trace Curry
Total Weight Lost: 79 lbs
Before undergoing gastric sleeve surgery, I weighed 250 pounds and struggled with my weight for most of my life. I first started noticing the impact as a teenager—feeling insecure about my body, avoiding outdoor activities, and constantly battling fatigue. Everyday things like walking, sleeping, or simply feeling comfortable in my own skin were a challenge.
I also dealt with chronic back and knee pain, and my sleep was terrible. I would toss and turn all night and wake up just as exhausted as I was when I went to bed. Emotionally and physically, I was drained—and I knew something had to change.
That’s when I found JourneyLite in Cincinnati, Ohio. Even though I live in York, Pennsylvania, I was so impressed by the program and the reputation of Dr. Trace Curry that I made the decision to travel several hundred miles for my procedure. And I’m so glad I did.
Even though I’m just 3 months post-op, I’ve already lost 79 pounds, and the difference is truly life-changing. I have more confidence. I have more energy. I can do so much more without getting winded or feeling self-conscious. I even look forward to going to the gym now, which I never thought I’d say! And I don’t feel hungry all the time—I actually have to set alarms just to remember to eat!
The support from the JourneyLite team has been amazing from day one. From my very first consultation to my post-op follow-ups, I’ve felt genuinely cared for. I love that I can text the office with questions and get fast, helpful responses. And the fact that Dr. Curry personally checks on me each month speaks volumes about the level of care this program provides.
The best part? I can finally sleep through the night again. No more tossing and turning. I wake up feeling rested, energized, and ready to take on the day.
Thank you, JourneyLite, for giving me my life back. I truly feel like I’ve been given a second chance—and I’m making the most of it. 💪💛

“I was in my early 40s when I realized something had to change. I wasn’t on medication yet, and I didn’t have mobility issues—but I knew it was only a matter of when. That scared me.
After years of yo-yo dieting and losing the same 50 pounds over and over again, I finally decided to take control. Gastric sleeve surgery wasn’t the easy way out—it was the smart way forward.
With the right tools, education, and an incredible support system from @JourneyLite, I’ve built a healthy lifestyle and a whole new mindset. For the first time in a long time, I LOVE the skin I’m in.
No more emotional eating. No more guessing games with food. Just confidence, health, and freedom.

Krystal’s VSG Before and After Transformation
VSG Before and After-Heidi’s Journey: From Self-Doubt to Self-Confidence
VSG Before and After: Heidi just 2 months after VSG at JourneyLite!
By the time I turned 40, I knew it was time for a change. My weight had been a lifelong battle—by age 19, I had reached 315 pounds. For as long as I can remember, food was my comfort, my coping mechanism through good times and bad. But the world isn’t always kind, and I endured years of bullying in school and cruel stares in adulthood. I tried everything—diets, medications, workouts—and nothing seemed to work. I would get stuck, discouraged, and right back where I started.
Then I found JourneyLite and the gastric sleeve.
I had my surgery on April 16, 2025—just 2 months ago and eight days after my 40th birthday—and it was the best gift I’ve ever given myself. In just two months, I’ve already lost 113 pounds and feel like a completely different person. I’m almost in “Onederland,” and for the first time in years, I love taking photos again. No more deleting every picture because I hated how I looked.
The sleeve didn’t just help me lose weight—it changed my relationship with food. I now recognize when I’m full and no longer eat until I feel miserable. I’m making healthier choices, not because I have to, but because I want to. Food is no longer my comfort; it’s fuel, and I finally understand that.
JourneyLite has supported me every step of the way. When I needed an unexpected hysterectomy just two weeks after surgery, they were there with answers and reassurance. Every time I’ve had a question—no matter how random—I’ve received a response within minutes. The monthly dietitian video classes and check-ins have been game-changers in keeping me on track.
Today, I can cross my legs comfortably—something I couldn’t do before without pain. And I smile in pictures, genuinely proud of who I’m becoming.
Thank you, JourneyLite, for giving me the tools, support, and confidence to reclaim my life. I still have a way to go, but for the first time, I truly believe I can get there.
