Traveling for surgery: FAQs
Do I need to return to Cincinnati for every follow-up?
In most cases, follow-up visits can take place at a regional JourneyLite office or virtually. Your plan depends on your procedure, recovery, and clinical needs. The team will explain which visits require an in-person appointment and where they should take place.
Can I start with a virtual consultation?
Virtual consultations are available for many patients. Contact JourneyLite to confirm whether your initial visit can be virtual based on your location, treatment path, and the evaluation you need.
How many trips will I need, and how long should I stay?
There isn’t one schedule that fits every patient. Your procedure, preoperative requirements, and recovery plan determine the trips and time nearby. Ask your team to confirm the schedule before making travel reservations.
Can I have testing done near home?
Ask your team which tests can be completed near home and how the results should be sent to JourneyLite. If you live more than an hour from one of our regional office locations, we can work with your primary care doctor to get any required testing done locally.
What if I have a concern after I return home?
Follow your discharge instructions for contacting the surgical team and getting urgent care. Occasionally concerns can require an in-person assessment, even if your routine follow-up is virtual. For a medical emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department.
Can I come from outside Ohio, Kentucky, or Indiana?
We have done successful procedures on patients from all over the United States. We can help arrange local testing, travel plans, and virtual follow-up visits for just about any state.
Tell us where you’re coming from.
We’ll help you explore your options and understand what care with JourneyLite could look like for you.
