How does the Allurion balloon work?
Allurion is swallowed as a capsule and filled after its position in the stomach is confirmed. It is designed to empty and pass naturally after approximately four months; the average observed residence time in the U.S. study was 15.3 weeks. Routine placement does not require endoscopy or anesthesia, but rare cases require endoscopic or surgical removal. See Allurion’s U.S. product and safety information.
The balloon’s time in your stomach is different from the length of your follow-up program. Ask how your six-month JourneyLite program supports you after balloon passage and what continued care would cost. Explore our Allurion treatment guide for more details.
Who may qualify for an Allurion gastric balloon?
The U.S. indication covers adults ages 22–65 with a BMI of 30–40 who have had at least one unsuccessful attempt at a weight loss program. Treatment includes lifestyle support. Meeting these criteria does not establish eligibility; a clinician must review your medical and surgical history and discuss benefits and risks. Source: Allurion U.S. eligibility information.
A consultation can also help you compare gastric balloon options, weight loss medications, and other treatments.
Questions about gastric balloon cost
Does insurance cover the $4,000 cost?
Do not assume coverage. Ask your insurer about your specific plan and ask JourneyLite for a written estimate showing your responsibility. Coverage for one weight loss treatment does not establish coverage for another.
Can I finance the Allurion program?
Review JourneyLite’s financing information and ask which options apply to this offer. Compare the total amount payable, interest, and fees along with the monthly payment.
What must happen before October 1, 2026?
The published offer runs through October 1, 2026. Ask the coordinator which booking, payment, or placement requirements apply before making plans around that date.
How should I compare prices between balloon programs?
Compare written quotes for the same services: the device, placement, any planned removal, follow-up length, nutrition support, and care outside the package. A device-only quote and a supervised program quote may cover different things.
