In November of 2007 the FDA approve the Realize® Adjustable Gastric Band for use in the United States. Made by Cincinnati-based Ethicon Endo-Surgery (a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson), the Realize Band® gives patients another excellent option for safe and effective weight loss. Although a relative newcomer to the US, it has been used in hundreds of thousands of patients worldwide.
Similar to the Lap Band, the Realize Band is adjustable and reversible, and offers one of the lowest short-term complication rates of all surgical weight loss procedures.
In October of 2008, Dr. Curry was chosen as one of 7 US surgeons to travel to Prague, Czech Republic, and be one of the first American surgeons to implant their new Realize-C band. On November 24th, 2008, we were the 2nd practice in the US to place a Realize-C® Band and were one of the first practices in the US able to offer this band to patients.
