JourneyLite has adopted the use of Medtronic’s new Signia smart stapling system for our linear staple lines. This high-tech new stapler uses Adaptive Firing™ technology, which gives the surgeon real-time feedback, measuring tissue thickness and adjusting firing speed based on the tissue’s thickness and variability. This technology results in outstanding performance in variable tissue, leading to the formation of more perfect staple lines.
Watch Dr. Trace Curry, medical director at JourneyLite, perform a gastric sleeve using this new, state-of-the-art, stapling device!

Very detailed video removal of stomach. It doesn’t seem as big as a banana. I spoke with a nurse that had the sleeve surgery and she said after 5 years her pouch has stretched and she can now eat two cups of food. Is it normal for the pouch to stretch.
Ivy O. says
Why is it that the omentum does not need to be reattached to the entire stomach? It appears in the video as if it’s just sutured back in place in one small location. Also, if there is a leak or staples come out, what happens to the staples? Do they just float around?
DrCurry says
Hello and thanks for your interest! When leaks happen they are almost always at the top of the sleeve, which is why I patch that area with omentum. It’s common for a staple or two to be loose up around the stomach, within a day or two they are socked in place by the omentum or surrounding tissue so they wouldn’t move after that.
