Health plans don’t cover weight loss surgery
http://news.yahoo.com/few-eligible-patients-weight-loss-surgery-152758832–finance.html?soc_src=copy This article from the AP shows that roughly only about 1% of those who would benefit from weight loss surgery, such as gastric sleeve, gastric bypass, or Lap Band, actually have insurance that covers these life-saving procedures. There is no other disease that is as serious as obesity that has such abysmal coverage. It’s going to take a concerted effort to get employers and insurers to see that the long-term effects of obesity are much more costly than the surgery to treat it.
