Belviq – new weight loss drug prescribed in Cincinnati, Dayton, and Columbus
Recently, the FDA approved Belviq for the chronic treatment of obesity. Belviq is the only drug approved for long-term use, and does not have the restrictions that we see with the use of Adipex (phentermine). There are still restrictions on BMI however: Your BMI has to be either above 30, or between 27-30 with a weight related medical issue. It is not approved for use with BMI less than 27. We are starting to accept patients now into our medical weight loss program to utilize this exciting new drug! Call 513-559-1222, 937-280-LOSE, or 614-526-4463 for more info on the program! Is the belviq also given to your sleeve patients? I am fighting the battle with my other issues … Of hives and steroids med that don’t help. Anywho I would like some more info, is it just your Ohio office or does the ky office have the program
Trace Curry says
Yes Belviq can be used for post op patients as an adjunct to get back on track. We do it out of Ky, Evendale, and Dayton.
Cathi says
Does it raise your BP like adipex?
Trace Curry says
Typically not!
Hope says
Does insurance cover this medication? If not is it expensive?
Trace Curry says
Without coverage Belviq is around $150/month. With coverage it is $50-$75. A lot of people have gotten it covered, but you would have to call on your policy to find out if they cover weight loss medications.
ADDIE says
I have a BMI of 35.8 and I have high blood pressure. Do I qualify fto use Belviq? Thanks.
Trace Curry says
Yes, you can use it all the way down to a 27 BMI! If you want to schedule just call 513-559-1222! Dr. Curry
Kathie says
what type of pre testing is required to start the program?
Trace Curry says
Typically we don’t do any testing for Belviq. If you haven’t had cholesterol checked in a while it might be worth seeing what it is and then rechecking after you lose your weight, but that is optional. Dr. Curry

My question is this: I had polio at age 3 and wear leg braces, use crutches and also use a power chair. Can’t walk long distances. Mainly from chair to bed or bathroom and from chair to car. I do drive and also have high blood pressure, type 2 diabeties and my cholestrol is under control.Circulation in my legs is not good. Can I take Belviq. My BMI is around 40+, Tried Phentermine for 8 months and it didn’t work for me only lost 19 lbs but 1 month I would lose and the next month gain. Up and down the whole time.
Trace Curry says
Belviq should be an option, I don’t see any reason why not! Dr. Curry

I tried to schedule appointment with family doctor and they made me talk to the nurse who said my doctor absolutely does not prescribe any type of weight loss medicines, I explained how Belviq is not like Adipex or phentermine and she continued to get rude. I applied for the free trial but a doctor has to write the prescription is this something I might be able to do at your Dayton office? Thank you.
Trace Curry says
Hi Michelle yes we can see you for Belviq at the Dayton office – just send an email to robin@loseweightcincy.com and she will get you set up!
Most family doctors do not have dietitians on staff, so it’s probably best that they leave the weight loss side of medicine up to us!

I am 5’5″ and 195 lbs and 58 – have had two heart attacks and have been diagnosed with high blood pressure, high cholesterol and take meds for those conditions. My family practitioner does not believe in prescribing weight loss meds. With this basic health history, would I be candidate for Belviq – I know I do not qualify for Adipex. Thanks.
Trace Curry says
Yes I think it would be fine, the medicine is not an amphetamine like Adipex and it should not cause stress on your heart. Dr. Curry

Hi ! Me and my husband are really interested in belviq. We both are canditates for belviq with over 33 BMI . Does tricare cover this medicine ? How do we get the free trial ? If tricare don’t cover it what is the charge for first office visit and follow ups ? I use lyrica , i put on so much weight because of it . Would it be a problem to use belviq with lyrica ? Thank you so much for your time .
Dr. C says
Hi there – I don’t believe that Tricare covers Belviq but I am not 100% sure. To get the free trial you have to meet face to face with me for a prescription. If you give me a number I can have someone call you to discuss.

Dr. Curry, I am a 55 year old male and am interested in Belviq. 40 years ago I was in an accident that left me with two artificial hips and a fused lower back…. I also was recently diagnosed with arthritis in my joints. Keeping weight off is crucial to my overall health. Since I can’t exercise like most folks I have a terrible time staying slim and Belviq seems like a good alternative. Right now I’m six feet, 230 pounds so I need to lose about 30 to 40 pounds. Would Belviq be an option?
Thanks so much,
TC Dininger
Dr. C says
Yes from what you are telling me, I think it would. Just fill out an appointment request and I’ll have someone call you to discuss your weight loss options with Belviq.

Hello Dr. Curry,
I am a 44 year old woman, I am 5’10 and weigh 305 lbs, I have back issues, nerve damage and would like to know if I could be a candidate for belviq. I have struggled with weight my whole life and seem to be getting more & more depressed.
I have looked into the weight loss surgeries however, (even though I pay a high premium through my job) the plan that we are on as a company does not cover any of the surgeries.
So, I am interested in trying another method.
I am in the Dayton area
Thanks for your time.
