Pain Management at JourneyLite

Our commitment to providing unsurpassed pain care begins with listening to you. We utilize patient-centered precision diagnostic techniques that allow the patient to help definitively locate the source of their pain. Precision diagnosis is the key to effectively treat pain. We take a thorough medical history, perform a physical exam and review MRI scans (if indicated), then use this information to decide what structure we think is causing the pain. By numbing the structure, we give the patient the ability to tell us if this temporarily relieved the pain and are able to follow this with precise treatment targeted at the exact structure that is generating the pain source.

Recognizing that those who have been living with daily pain for more than a year often develop other problems as a result of their pain, Center for Advance SPINE Technologies (CAST) practices a comprehensive approach to pain treatment. Some people with chronic pain may have trouble concentrating, difficulty sleeping, experience weight gain or loss, and are often in a bad mood. These things need to be addressed in addition to finding and treating the source of pain.

Medical Management

A Variety of medications are prescribed. Anti-inflammatories, anti-depressants and sleep medications are a few of the medications used to lessen pain symptoms.

Diagnostic & Therapeutic Injections

With a diagnostic injection the doctor can selectively deaden individual nerves until the “pain generator” is located. The patient is awake during the procedure and can report if the pain is relieved, diminished or unaffected.

Therapeutic Injections are similar to diagnostic injections except that once the painful nerve is identified, it is treated with medication (steroids) or electricity (pulsed radio-frequency) or heat (heat lesioning) for long-term relief.

EMG/Nerve Conduction Studies

These are specialized tools used to diagnose conditions that cause pain, weakness, tingling and numbness. These tests can determine the extent of nerve damage and help physicians to arrive at a correct diagnosis.

Implantable Devices

Implantable devices, such as a Spinal Cord Stimulator and pain pumps, are options for patients who have not achieved success with other therapies.
